How Gooso Pixel Got Its Name: A Story About Rescue, Healing, and Finding Your Safe Place

Some businesses start with a business plan. Mine started with a skinny rescue dog, greasy medicated ears, and a gentle kiss hello.

Before Goose

Before there was Gooso Pixel, there was loss.

My partner at the time had a bull terrier she'd loved for over eight years. His name was Echo, and he was her soul dog, the kind of bond people talk about, but not everyone gets to experience. I had become his second mom over the nearly two years we'd been together, so when we lost him, we were both devastated.

Grief has a way of hollowing you out, but it also makes room for what comes next.

The Search

Little by little, I started sending her links to rescue dogs, shelters, adoption pages, just possibilities, or small offerings of hope when everything felt heavy.

Then one day, she sent me a link!

She'd already set up a time to meet him. A dog who had been sitting in a shelter for over seven months with no visits. Seven months! He had a wound that wouldn't heal, and no one was coming for him.

His name was Zeus, but the shelter had changed it to Goose so he would appear higher up in the app's search results.

Meeting Goose

He was so skinny. So tall. His ears were greasy from medication, and his skin was in rough shape.

What I remember most is the gentle way he kissed me hello and how he wiped his greasy medicated ears on me as if it were nothing. Then, the unforgettable moment arrived like a tidal wave when he unleashed his signature howl.

Goose was going to be part of our family!

The Hard Part

Taking care of a rescue isn't easy. Anyone who's done it knows.

My partner spent endless days and so much money training Goose, helping him work through his traumas, showing me that rescue dogs need patience and love, and that their transformation is worth it. She saved his life and gave him purpose again. I was scared to mess up, but I made it a point to learn about dogs and the patience they require, especially rescues.

With the help of his vets, the wound that wouldn't heal finally started to heal. His fur began to grow back. His skin conditions slowly improved.

And every night, Goose and I had our routine that we called "Neosporin Time."

I'd wipe his skin gently and apply Neosporin right before bed. It was our quiet moment together. Night after night, taking care of each other in our own way.

Becoming Gooso

As his body healed, his personality began to emerge. This goofy, loving, dramatic soul had been hiding under all that pain.

And somewhere along the way, Goose became Gooso. Because, of course, we had to give him that Latin flair.

Gooso. The name just fit.

Four Years Later

So much has changed in the four years since Goose entered my life, especially this year.

I've experienced a lot of loss and heartbreak. The loss of Amos, who was my soul dog but had integrated himself into the family as the dog of my mom, dad, brother, and sister-in-law. My dad's declining health, financial uncertainty, and a lot of endings.

Losing Amos hit different. He was 16 when we had to put him down. Sixteen years. He was mine first, but he became everyone's. The whole family loved him, and now he's gone.

But my one constant through all the upheaval has been Goose, whose steady presence has been a source of comfort and hope during tough times.

When everything else felt unstable, he was there. Same goofy howl. Same gentle kisses. Same presence beside me when I needed it most.

It's been a privilege to use his name in my artistic endeavor. It fits his personality with all the flair and his explosive, colorful energy.

Why the Brand Looks the Way It Does

If you've visited Gooso Pixel, you've probably noticed the colors. Bright. Beautiful. Positive.

Goose

That's Goose.

The brand colors reflect the brightness and vibrancy I associate with Goose. His kindness, positivity, and zest for life unite us all, inspiring pride in our shared values.

That's why I named it Gooso Pixel, because his journey embodies rescue, healing, and hope, making the brand a symbol of resilience and renewal.

Gooso Pixel.

Gooso, because he taught me that healing takes time, that love is patient, and that sometimes the ones who've been through the most have the biggest hearts.

Pixel, because I'm an artist and scientist, and everything I create starts with those tiny building blocks.

Together, it's a reminder that small things, a daily routine, a gentle kiss, a rescue dog no one else wanted, can become the foundation of something meaningful.

Amos Lives On

If you visit the shop's customization section, you might notice a familiar face. Amos makes an appearance there. It's my small way of keeping him close and letting him be part of this journey too.

Some dogs leave paw prints on your heart that never fade. Amos was one of those dogs.

My Safe Place

Life keeps throwing curveballs. Some days, I question everything. Some days I wonder if I'm making all the wrong choices.

But then Goose howls at me from across the room or leans his bony body against my leg or gives me that look, and I remember why I keep going.

He doesn't care about business plans, traffic numbers, or whether things are working out the way I thought they would. He wants to be next to me. He wants love.

And honestly? That's enough.

To the Rescues

If you've ever adopted a shelter dog, you know the truth. You think you're saving them, but really, they're saving you, showing how rescue can be a path to healing and emotional strength.

Goose was in that shelter for seven months. No visits. A wound that wouldn't heal. His name was changed so someone could find him.

And now he's my safe place, my reason to keep going, and the name behind everything I'm building.

Your story isn't over. Neither is theirs.

🐾 Thank You to Abandoned Pet Rescue 🐾

A heartfelt thank you to Abandoned Pet Rescue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for holding on to Goose for seven months until we found him. As a no-kill shelter, they gave him the time and care he needed while waiting for his forever family. Without their dedication and patience, Goose would never have become Gooso, and this brand would not exist.
